Fatema Dhaif24/02/2025I attended the beginner handstand workshop which was an excellent introduction to the skills needed to start working towards a handstand. This was pitched at the perfect level for a beginner and the organisation of the session was a perfect balance between discussion/theory and time to practice what was demonstrated. Darren provided lots of regressions and progressions so it was appropriately challenging for everyone who attended. Very high quality session and I’m keen to come back to learn and practice more calithenics skills. I stumbled across Darren’s cali classes by fluke in September 2023 as I was looking for ways to improve my strength beyond the mundanity of the gym and I don’t think I could’ve found a better place. As a naturally awkward person, I felt at ease so quickly within the sessions. Darren and those who attend are so welcoming, supportive and kind which allows for a real sense of community within the classes. Darren works hard to ensure the classes are accessible to all regardless of their current skill set (I had no bloody clue when I started!) and both he and the class members provide encouragement and advice from the start. So many people have commented on how quickly I’ve made progress, and I can definitely feel it myself. In my strength, and in my confidence. I would highly recommend these classes to anyone looking to improve their strength and skillset.
I’ve been messing around with Calisthenics for a few years now. Not really making the progress I would have hoped. Been training at DrCalisthenics for about 9months. The technical instruction I’ve had from Darren has been second to none. Not just helping me to increase my technical ability but also my confidence. Training with a cross range of ages brings in a whole new level. The training structure set by Darren allows flexibility for everyone, from beginners to intermediate levels. Been amazing to support and be support by the Cali-community. Loving it!!
I’d found videos of Darren’s Calisthenics classes online and from the onset it was something I really wanted to try. However, I put off joining for a few months as I’m not usually one for putting myself in new social situations. When I did eventually join, I can honestly say that everyone was really friendly and welcoming. Darren has done a great job in building a genuine community of like-minded people. Not to mention, Darren is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of Calisthenics and every class is enjoyable but challenging. Each session varies greatly, so it never gets boring! Looking back at videos from when I joined 10 months ago, I can see a clear improvement in skill and strength, and look forward to what is to come! Cheers to Darren for all the support.
I can’t recommend Darren enough for everything that he has done for my calisthenics journey. I started off as a complete beginner and had two main goals to achieve which was a muscle up and a handstand, with Darren’s help I am now doing both of these comfortably! It’s a great community and I am happy to be a part of it!
I stumbled across callisthenics accidentally as I was just passing by and was invited to join the group for a session. At that point my experience level of exercising was bare minimum but I was met with patience and felt fully included since the day I joined. Darren has extensive knowledge and provided tips and different exercise adjustments appropriate to my fitness level which made classes challenging but doable. After a year I am so much stronger and more confident. I Can do skin the cats, kick up to a handstand and keep getting closer to unlocking a flag hold. I could not recommend Dr Calisthenics enough, as results are easy to see, I gained knowledge and provided tools to allow continuous growth.
Having 3+ years experience in the gym I initially thought calisthenics was gonna be easy however it’s the most HUMBLING experience i’ve encountered. Everything looks easy but it’s 10x harder. Darren has always helped me understand the movement and the proper technique with each skill. No matter your ability he’s always there to help. One thing about Darren that stands out is he’ll always explain the skill thoroughly so you can take what you’ve learned and practice it by yourself. Over the past 4-5 months, Darren has not only transformed my fitness journey but has also instilled in me a profound appreciation for the art and science of calisthenics. From the very first session, he showed an unparalleled passion for callisthenics that was contagious. Darren possesses the ability to tailor workouts to individual abilities, ensuring that each of us feels challenged yet supported in our fitness endeavours. His extensive knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology shines through in every class, creating an effective approach to training.
On the recommendation of Will, my youngest son I decided I would give calisthenics a go – I needed to get fitter and lose a few kilos. If you are looking for an easy way to improve muscle tone and increase your strength don’t bother signing up, however if you are serious about your fitness and strength then DR Cali might be just what you’re looking for. Darren will set the exercises at an appropriate level for your age and strength so don’t worry if you are of ‘mature years’ or a novice (last time I was in a gym was at school in the 70s) The small class size -usually 12 – guarantees a friendly environment where we all support each other. As long as you are prepared to put the effort in then week by week you will see an improvement and feel all the better for it. Three months in, 10kg lighter and I’m still smiling.
I have been attending Darren’s Calisthenics classes for over a year now and I’ve left each one feeling a sense of achievement and having had the best laugh throughout! I have watched Darren build a community of individuals with all fitness backgrounds, where they feel guided and encouraged to progress at their own pace. He has not only started and progressed my Calisthenics journey but has enhanced my pole fitness journey too (which I train alongside), allowing me to understand the transferable skills and how both disciplines compliment each other. Darren has inspired me to build on my strength and improve my flexibility and technique and I now feel comfortable training what he has taught me in the gym outside of lessons. Darren has the perfect balance of being a coach and a friend to no matter who walks through the door and has created such a special environment. I’ve spent years shying away from the gym, happy to make a million excuses to not go, not train as hard as I should. I find doing weights and straight cardio mind benignly boring. When I discovered Calisthenics it was the light bulb moment that I needed. Working on the ability to manage my own body weight has opened up a whole new world of exercises that challenge the mind as much as your body, and there can be no half hearted efforts when you’re holding yourself upside down!!
Darren has an infectious passion for the practice and it only takes a class or two before you’re hooked and you start to share that passion.
Everyone in the club is so supportive and the encouragement to improve extends beyond the classes, the interaction outside of the classes is really great too, it’s like a proper family.

Calisthenics is such a fun way to gain insane strength and skills. As someone who has always struggled to stick to fitness habits, I decided to join DR Calisthenics classes and it was the best decision I made. I’ve been with the team for over a year and have gained so much strength and improved my flexibility a lot. As well as gaining confidence, I have obtained a high level of fitness knowledge. Darren does not only show you the exercises but explains how to get the correct form, what muscles are being used and the importance of the correct technique. He offers regressions and progressions in all the exercises so that whatever level you’re at you can be involved. He also takes the time to give you suggestions for how you can improve away from the classes. Everyone is so supportive and welcoming. THE BEST TEAM!
